The Hanson Suite

Facing east, having the morning sun, the Hanson suite has pride of place looking out from above the main entrance, towards the giant redwood tree, across the gardens and over open parkland beyond. The room is accessed via an additional flight of steps off the main landing. During the 1920s, this room was the bedroom of the current Earl of Harewood, the first grandchild of King George V and Queen Mary. During its restoration the outline of original wallpaper chosen by HRH Princess Mary could be seen depicting "ride a cock horse to Banbury Cross" and dated October 1922, four months before the Earl was born.

History:
During the Second World War, a local school relocated to the Hall. After the war and the untimely death of the then Earl, Princess Mary's husband, the Hall was purchased by the school before the rest of the village was put up for sale in the early 1950s. When the school closed in the mid 1960s, it was purchased by the Hanson family. The wealthy mill owners lavished a fortune on restoring the building's period features, whilst modernising it as their family home. Over 40 workmen spent four years at the Hall to bring the building back to life, without which the building would probably not have survived to the present day.

From the main landing, the room is accessed via a small flight of additional steps. This spacious room has large mullioned windows.
